Substance Abuse

Detroit's runaway homeless and at-risk youth who suffer from substance abuse issues face similar problems to those dealing with mental illness. There is no treatment program within 40 miles of the city of Detroit that will provide inpatient treatment to uninsured youth under age 18. It is not surprising that most of Detroit's runaway homeless, in-crisis, and at-risk youth who have substance abuse issues do not get treatment and transition into adulthood with a decreased ability to take the steps necessary to end their homelessness and become independent.

One third of the youth who come to CHM abuse alcohol.
