12 Kids of Christmas: Meet AnthonyReason to give #12: Pay it forward. Did you know that many of our kids who leave Covenant House contact us later to give back? We just received an e-mail the other day from one of our former residents who has clothes to donate. One of our former kids volunteers on a regular basis and looks for opportunities to help the kids who live at Covenant House now. Meet Anthony. We asked him his story, here's what he said. Why did you come to Covenant House? |

Have a Jolly MGM Christmas!MGM Grand hosted their annual holiday party for Covenant House on December 8. Their staff transformed the dining hall into a holiday affair by creating a grandeur display of decorations. The residents enjoyed the decor and had the opportunity to partake in a gourmet feast prepared by MGM’s own chef. MGM Staff came as Christmas carolers to sing holiday favorites. Santa Claus himself even made an appearance. Gift bags full of toiletries, movie passes and a $50 Target gift card were given to each resident. |
12 Kids of Christmas: Meet AntwonReason to give #10: Hit the Road Jack We don’t want our kids to come back. Yes, we love our kids and want to help them, but once they leave us we don’t want them to end up in a situation that causes them to become homeless again. We want our kids to be leaders and we encourage their growth and provide tools for life-long success. Meet Antwon. |
12 Kids of Christmas: Meet NatalieReason to Give #9: We all had to face this reality when our parents stopped paying all our bills. Like we did, our kids need to learn the value of money, saving and time management. We need to help them transition into adulthood. Homelessness is not a simple fix. Many of the youth who live in our Crisis Center need long-term assistance. That’s why we have a two year transitional living program. |
12 Kids of Christmas: Meet MartinReason to Give #8: Make a Dream Come True When our kids grow up they want to be lawyers, teachers and doctors too. We connect them with the resources they need whether it be applying for financial aid and scholarships or selecting a college or trade. Our kids know that we have their back and want the very best for them. Meet Martin. |
12 Kids of Christmas: Meet ShaunetraReason to Give #7: Something's Stirring Too many cooks in the kitchen? Not the case at Covenant House. Our staff goes above and beyond their job descriptions to help raise our kids. This is the case for Ms. Reed and Ms. Marguerite, two of CHM’s chefs who provide meals for our kids each day. But they take it a step further and teach our kids, like Shaunetra, to prepare food and prepare for life. The time the cooks spend with our kids impacts their lives. The kids look up to them and are inspired by theirwisdom. Meet Shaunetra. |
12 Kids of Christmas: Meet MichelleReason to give #4: Homelessness cannot wait. When a kid comes to us we have to act immediately to make sure their basic needs are met. Some kids haven’t eaten in a week. We need to make sure they are safe, warm and fed and then we need to find out why they are homeless so we can address their situations individually. Our mission is based on faith and the belief that every child deserves to be safe, loved and respected. We fulfill this mission by providing shelter and services to children and youth who are homeless or at great risk. |
