Tyrone

Tyrone is the first candidate of our ROPAL program. He resided at CHM for over a year after he lost his job and couldn’t afford to pay the rent. With nowhere to turn, Tyrone walked to Covenant House where he received food, shelter, hot water and computer access.

Tyrone appreciates the staff that has helped him along the way.

“The youth of America need guidance and assistance,” he said. “A lot of homes in Detroit are broken and some kids don’t have families. It’s hard to find a job, especially when you’re young and inexperienced. But we still need money to live!”

Tyrone is thankful for the opportunity to move into the new Galveston Apartments in Detroit. His new place is close to bus lines he will travel daily to his full time security job. The apartments are also within walking distance of several stores.

What’s next for Tyrone? College. Tyrone plans to apply to school to obtain his business degree and eventually own his own real estate business. Down the road, he may be helping other residents obtain affordable housing.
