Terrance

As Terrance was growing up, he slowly realized that his mother wasn’t able to physically provide for him anymore. Times were tough, so he moved in with his uncle to see if things would be any better there. Unfortunately, Terrance felt like that wasn’t the right environment either because “there wasn’t really too much running stuff.” Because of these hardships, Terrance knew he had to find somewhere else to live where he could focus on his own goals instead of providing for everyone around him. So at age 21, he made his way to Covenant House.

Now he has been here for three months, and he says, “I like it here. It’s comfortable. And I have a personal connection with the staff.” During his stay here, Terrance hopes to receive his high school diploma and get a job. He’s hoping to get into CHM’s Rights of Passage program where he will be able to stay for up to two years and save money for his future. Then he will be able to achieve his dream of having his own place someday.

In the meantime, he is working on finding a paid internship through the Total Me Internship Program.   This will allow him to work as an intern on campus and learn valuable, marketable job skills at the same time. These skills will be useful, as Terrance hopes to be an entrepreneur someday and own his own chain of restaurants, as well as a computer business.

Terrance is full of determination, and after speaking with him, it’s obvious that his hard work and perseverance will pay off some day. With the determined attitude he has and the opportunity to work toward his goals at CHM, Terrence will go far and someday become the successful man he wants to be!
