Stephanie

Stephanie was literally sleeping in a bus stop in Detroit because she had nowhere else to go. It's a miracle she didn't freeze to death.

Here's her story:

Where do I start? I ran away from home because I couldn’t take the abuse from my parents any longer. But as an 18-year old girl, I didn’t know where else to turn for help.

So I ended up on the streets, alone and with nowhere to go.
I found a bus stop that became my bedroom, and bathed in shopping center rest rooms. I ate when I could, the rest of the time I went hungry. I wasn’t going to school. Life didn’t seem worth living.

By the grace of God, a bus driver cared enough to notice me. He knew I wasn’t safe there, and helped me get to Covenant House. I have been so blessed here – my entire life has turned around. I have a warm bed, good food, and the staff have become family that cares and supports me in a way my parents couldn’t.

I hate to think what would have happened to me if Covenant House Michigan wasn’t here. Homeless kids die on the streets everyday – that could have been me. I am so thankful that you cared enough about me, and kids like me, to support this mission. Even though I don’t know you personally, I thank God everyday for you.
