Sarde
Sarde has been living in the Crisis Center since February 18th. She has gone through many ups and downs in her short years of living. Sarde’s father was abusive and as time went by she realized she didn’t deserve to be treated in this manner and left home. This eventually led Sarde to move in with a man that allowed her to stay in his home for free, while sexually exploiting her.
Sarde was determined to continue her schooling and walked two hours there and back to finish. A month went by and she worked up the courage to tell her teacher about her living situation. Her teacher immediately directed her to a nearby 30-day homeless shelter.
Sarde needed more time to get on her feet so she was refered to Covenant House and has been here ever since. She smiles when she mentions how she enjoys living at CHM and that they “provide you with a ton of great information but you have to be willing to snatch it up and keep it.”
Sarde plans to move into the Rights of Passage program and is looking forward to becoming independent in the near future. She will be attending Wayne County Community College this fall to pursue a career in social work. Today she went on a job interview and we’re crossing our fingers that she gets hired!
Sarde, like many of our young adults, is dealing with a lot of pain from her past, but she’s able to move forward when treated with love and respect. Thank you for helping Sarde and the hundreds of young people who walk through our gates each year. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers as they continue to heal.

Sarde
I have had the pleasure of meeting Sarde, she is a very spunky young lady. I enjoy talking with her and mentoring with her on Monday nights with ReTool. I will continue to keep Sarde as well as the other young adults in my thougts and prayers.
