Rick

“This is the happiest day of my life!” exclaimed Rick as he ran into the administration building to show off his diploma. Rick used to feel that all odds were against him to get to school and obtain his diploma.

Born in Owasso, MI Rick was raised by a neglectful Mom until he left home to live with his grandmother at age 14. In 11th grade he began seeking independence, but couldn’t make ends meet. Eventually, he was left with nowhere to turn.

Covenant House became his new home. Rick was able to receive his basic necessities and referrals to CHM’s programs. He was still attending Royal Oak Churchill Community High School and determined to graduate. In order for him to attend school, he walked three miles to get to the smart bus on Woodward.

Rick’s science teacher said that he was astonished by Rick’s effort and determination to get to school and graduate.

Rick has come along way since he entered Covenant House. With your help, he has been able to keep focused, graduate, and begin searching for a job. He has transitioned into the Rights of Passage program and is on the road to independence. He is applying to attend Macomb Community College in the fall.
