Darnella

Darnella

Upon first meeting her, one would never suspect that this soft-spoken teenager lives in a homeless shelter because of arguments with her mother. Darnella’s story is unlike those of many kids who come through our doors because she came from a loving family and was never forced to live on the streets.

At eighteen years old, Darnella would not comply with her mother’s rules and curfew, which caused constant fights between the two. Then, she became a resident at CHM. She seems to have a good head on her shoulders, and staying at CHM was a mutual decision between her and her mother.

This smart, young woman still plans to graduate in 2009 and hopes to attend Liberty University. She wants to major in business marketing and excitedly says, “Russell Simmons is an inspiration to me.”

Darnella plans to remain at CHM for the entire 90-day program, and why not? She made friends very quickly!
