Chris

Chris is 21-years-old and lives in the Rights of Passage building. Before he came to Covenant House he was living with his grandmother. Chris admits he was not following the rules his grandmother had set for him. “I was being disrespectful and coming in the house late.” He also admits that he would quit everything he started.

Eventually, Chris’ grandmother got tired of him not following her rules and she kicked him out. He needed to find his own way. He was upset at his grandmother for a while, but soon discovered Covenant House Michigan through a friend that was currently residing here.

“I didn’t like it at first,” he shared, “but they helped me get my I.D., birth certificate and my first job.” Once Chris opened up and “wasn’t so angry” anymore, he began to enjoy Covenant House Michigan.

He is now working on becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) at the Michigan Career and Technical Institute (MCTI) East. In the fall, Chris plans to go to school to get his Registered Nurse license.
