Briana
“Homelessness is no joke!” exclaimed Briana. “Some people look at us and automatically assume being homeless makes us bad or something. It doesn’t. It just means we were given up on."
Briana had a fallout with her adoptive mother when she was 16, and a series of unfortunate events lead to homelessness. After staying at a number of friends’ houses and going from shelter to shelter, she began to lose hope.Thankfully she found Covenant House Michigan. We are so glad that she didn't give up.
"For every one of those people who looks down on us, there are just as many who wonder why we haven’t given up yet. My answer is this: There are times where I just want to quit and let this life go, but there are places like Covenant House that allow me to go on. They give me the hope to face tomorrow.”
Briana has bipolar disorder and, due to her illness, cannot maintain a job, but is working to achieve independence. She currently resides in the Rights of Passage program where she is learning living skills while attending Henry Ford Community College. She recently reunited with her biological family is building a relationship with them.
Now Briana's time with us is quickly coming to an end. We are so proud of all that she's accomplished and the inspiration she is to us as staff, to the community, and to other homeless youth who are on the brink of giving up hope.
