Alvin
Another CHM youth, Alvin, is a resident of ROP and a student at Wayne County Community College. He carries a bag that holds what he considers the basic essentials.
“I have a planner to make sure I’m on schedule and keep my appointments, I have resumes because you never know when someone will be hiring, school books for reading and a jacket in case I get cold, you always have to be prepared for the weather,” explains Alvin.
He also carries a Bible, which he values over all things. “Faith is important, especially for someone like me who is going through a hardship, I use it as my anchor. It helps me gain wisdom and helps me cope. Faith in the Lord and in myself will help me accomplish any goal I set out for myself.”
Alvin wanted to relay this message to all CHM’s donors and volunteers: “You’re helping good people here, giving them a second chance for life, an opportunity to build life and employability skills. The same person you’re helping may end up working in a hospital or doing law enforcement. This place is helping a lot of people. I know when I get rich, I’m going to be the biggest donor!”
