Annual Candlelight Vigil 2011

When?

Thursday, November 17, 2011 @ 6:00 pm

Where?

Covenant House Michigan
2959 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.
Detroit, MI 48208

Why?

Over 5,000 youth sleep on the streets of Michigan on any given night. They’re not homeless because they are lazy, or because they’ve spent their lives making bad decisions. They are homeless because their childhood was full of abuse and neglect. Because they have crippling mental illnesses that make living a “normal” life difficult. Because they grew up being passed through the foster care system, only to age out without ever knowing the stability of a family. Because their families don’t want them.

Covenant House offers these young people unconditional love and the support they need to build a life off the streets. We provide shelter, educational services, job development training, life skills training, and other services.

We invite you to join us as we light candles of hope and pray for the young people who still call the streets “home” so that they can find peace and safety someday. Our kids will be sharing their stories, and you can also tour our facility.

These young people have been discarded and forgotten. They believe they don’t matter and that no one cares. Please prove them wrong.

If you can’t make it, consider holding a Vigil close to home. Contact Melissa Golpe at 313.463.2005, or send us a message for more information.

We're accepting donations of full size toiletries, gift cards and money.
