About Sister Xavier Ballance:

With over 40 years of service in healthcare Sister Xavier Ballance has vast experience as a President, Chief Executive Officer, Administrator, and Assistant Administrator at hospitals throughout the country. Developing satellite and outreach programs, monitoring construction projects, and developing a Catholic sponsored Network PPO are just a few of her accomplishments. She has also held various nursing positions advancing from staff nurse to head nurse to nursing supervisor.

In addition to being a member of the Covenant House Michigan Board of Directors Sister Xavier serves as Chair of the St. Mary’s Health System in Evansville, Indiana as well as the St. Vincent Sarah Fisher Center. She is currently a member of the boards of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Foundation, Advantage Health, Detroit Community Initiative, St. John Providence East Region Board, and St. John Providence Health System Continuum Board.

Sr. Xavier is a member of the Daughters of Charity, she was Sponsor Representative of the DOC East Central Province and Chair of Board of the DOC National Health System from 1997 until November 1999. She was President of the DOC East Central Region and DOC Provincial Councilor for Health from 1987 until December 1996.

She was President and Chief Executive Officer of St. Mary’s Medical Center, a 502-bed acute care hospital in Evansville, Indiana for eleven years. Prior to that she was the Administrator/President and CEO of Providence Hospital, a 457-bed suburban teaching hospital in Southfield, Michigan. Early in her career she worked twelve years as a nurse in hospitals in Ohio, Missouri, Texas, Illinois and Louisiana.

She is the author of several articles and monographs. Awards include “A Boss of the Year”, 1975, American Business Women’s Association, Oxmoor Chapter, Birmingham, Alabama and “Steward of St. Vincent DePaul Award”, 1996, St. Mary’s Medical Center, Evansville, Indiana.
