About Leslie Murphy:

Leslie A. Murphy is President and CEO of Murphy Consulting, Inc, a member of the Board of Kelly Services, Inc. (NASDAQ: KELYA, KELYB), a world leader in human resource solutions, operating in 37 countries and territories, with revenue approximating $6 billion. She is also a member of the Board of VSP Insurance Company, a $4 billion Company and the largest vision insurance provider in the country, with international frame manufacturing and distribution operations and a network of laboratories fabricating eyewear. She is a retired partner and former member of the senior leadership team of Plante & Moran, the nation’s 11th largest public accounting and management consulting firm. In October 2005, she became only the third woman to chair the 350,000-member American Institute of Certified Public Accounting (AICPA).

Murphy joined Plante & Moran in 1973 after earning a BBA in accounting from the University of Michigan. She became partner in 1983 by distinguishing herself through outstanding client service. Murphy has consistently used her leadership skills to effect positive change at the firm, within the accounting profession, and in the realm of community service. She co-founded the firm’s Personal Tightrope Action Committee, whose groundbreaking policy recommendations helped to gain Plante & Moran a place on Fortune magazine’s “100 Best Companies to Work For” list for the past ten years.

Murphy’s leadership and influence within the CPA profession include serving on the AICPA Board of Directors and numerous committees for six years, as well as the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants (MACPA) Board of Directors. Murphy continues her service to the profession as a member of the AICPA Governing Council, a member of the Assurance Services Executive Committee, with a focus on Enterprise Risk Management, and the Commission on Accounting Higher Education, entitled “Pathways to a Profession”.

Murphy is also the recipient of numerous awards. The Detroit Regional Chamber of Commerce Fusion Group honored Murphy with their Horizon Award for Professional Services in May, 2009. In September, 2008, the MACPA recognized Leslie’s service to the profession with the “Distinguished Achievement” Award. Murphy was named Women CPA of the Year by the American Society of CPA’s in 2007 and was named one of Crain’s Detroit Business’ “Most Influential Women in Southeastern Michigan”, as well as one of Business Finance’s “2006 Influencers: 60 Authoritative Voices.” The MACPA also gave her its “Outstanding Visionary” award in September, 2005, CPA magazine named Murphy one of the “Top 100 Most Influential Practitioners for 2005,” and Accounting Today declared her one of the “Top 100 Most Influential People for 2005.”

Murphy also contributes significant time to community and currently serves as Chair of the Board for United Way of Southeastern Michigan and St. John Providence Health System and Past Chair of the Board of the Detroit Regional Chamber of Commerce.

She was appointed to the board in 2011.
