About Lawrence Givens:

Mr. Givens is the President of the Blackmond Givens Group, a management consulting company. Prior to forming the Blackmond Givens Group Givens served for five years, from 2001 to 2005, as the Executive Director of the Detroit Empowerment Zone Development Corporation. Until his retirement in December of 2000, Givens served as the Vice President of Corporate Relations for AAA Michigan, where he had responsibility for government relations, public and media relations, communications, community and civic affairs, contributions programs, traffic safety services and supplier diversity programs. He also served as the AAA spokesperson for all significant issues subject to media inquiry. Previous positions at AAA Michigan included: Director-Corporate Relations, Assistant Vice President-Corporate Relations and Assistant Vice President-Human Resources.

For two years prior to joining AAA Michigan, he was the Assistant to the General Superintendent of Detroit Public Schools, with responsibility for school-industry relations.

This position was preceded by a nineteen-year career at Chrysler Corporation where he held a variety of increasingly responsible executive positions, including Vice President-Public Relations for the Chrysler Institute.

Mr. Givens holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Wayne State University (1968) and a Bachelor of Science in Education, Wayne State University (1962).

Mr. Givens is active in civic and community affairs in the Detroit area. His board affiliations include Covenant House Michigan, Starr Commonwealth for Children, 100 Black Men of Greater Detroit, Gilda’s Club, and Starr Vista. He is also President of the Board of Directors of Covenant House Academy East High School.

Mr. Given’s awards include Chrysler Corporation “Manager of the Year Award”, 1968; United Negro College Fund “Outstanding Leadership Award”, 1989; Michigan Legislative Black Caucus Foundation “Pioneer Support Award”, 1996; and, Mays Academy “Legacy Award for Community Service”, 2000.
