Student Hosts Party to Benefit Covenant House Michigan

Danielle admits that she had no idea there even was a “youth homeless problem,” assuming that homelessness was only a problem for mostly male adults.

Michelle and Danielle Bain Party for Covenant House

Every year Michelle Bain and her daughter Danielle host a party to raise money for charity. Their philanthropy started many years ago when Michelle’s nephew was diagnosed with cancer and hospitalized at St. Jude’s Hospital. Last year they chose to purchase presents for kids in foster care who might not otherwise receive gifts.

This year, through a recommendation by the coordinator of a special studies program that Danielle is participating in at Novi High School, Danielle chose Covenant House. As part of her program, she had to choose a charity, research it, and then plan a fundraising event for it. Danielle held their annual party for charity, and told all the guests about what she had learned about Covenant House. Her party raised $800 for our kids! Danielle admits that she had no idea there even was a “youth homeless problem,” assuming that homelessness was only a problem for mostly male adults.

Danielle and her mother viewed the Covenant House video and were stunned by the severity of youth homelessness. (The same video can be seen by going to the “about CHM” tab.) Danielle plans to go back to her program coordinator to see if she can arrange for a school-wide effort to help, and hopes to invite some of our kids as guest speakers.

We are so grateful to Danielle and her mom for their commitment to helping others, especially their efforts on behalf of our kids! This story emphasizes that a lot can be done if everyone does just a little to help.
