St. Anastasia Roman Catholic Church Partners with CHM and Gives Our Girls a Makeover
Six CHM residents were filled with smiles and confidence on April 29 as they received a pizza dinner and free makeovers thanks to the women of St. Anastasia Roman Catholic Church. The makeover event was a fundraiser with the proceeds going to an orphanage in India. When the Volunteer Coordinator met with several women from the parish in March they wanted to involve the residents of CHM as they are making us one of their missions. The women went back to their Parish, told the congregation about our clients and a wonderful woman donated $100 for six of our clients to get makeovers. She also asked the girls to get to the Church early so she could buy them pizza and get to know them better.
The parish welcomed CHM with open arms when we arrived. Our residents were very grateful for the free makeover and the opportunity to get out of the city. They were amazed at how beautiful the houses were in Troy. One girl commented on a newer Volkswagen Bug for sale that had no rust on it. This trip was a great opportunity for the girls to get pampered like they deserve and see that there is more out there than their surrounding neighborhood.
The partnership between CHM and St. Anastasia Church continued when the Volunteer Coordinator and Stephanie Taylor, outreach manager, attended Concert in the Park. Concert in the Park was hosted by Faith @ Works bookstore, owned by a member of St. Anastasia Church. Brother Al, a Franciscan who has spent years ministering to help the homeless, entertained the audience with songs that told stories of the individuals who come to the Canticle Café. The café provides homeless individuals with food, support and access to things such as the internet so they can look for jobs.
CHM looks forward to growing a strong relationship with St. Anastasia.
