Lions in the Cov!

December 12, 2011 - 9:17am
“This is what the holidays are all about, not only being thankful for what you have but giving back to others who don’t.”
Isaiah Ekejiuba

Detroit Lions’ Isaiah Ekejiuba, John Wendling, and Erik Coleman teamed up to help serve and share an early Thanksgiving meal with our kids on November 22. The kids couldn’t have been more excited, getting pictures and autographs. “Oh my gosh it was such an exciting night!” gushed Christina, a resident of the Caritas Center. “They were so nice and fun, and they gave us autographs and everything!”

“I have been looking for an opportunity to get more involved with the community here in Detroit,” said Ekejiuba, a linebacker for the Detroit Lions. After learning more about Covenant House and our kids he “was honored to be a part of such a great event.”

The event was sponsored by The Honey Baked Ham Co., The Detroit Lions, Zoup!, Tim Hortons, and Valiant Public Relations & Events (VPR), along with local networking groups that host a monthly young professionals event, but decided during the holiday season to focus on giving back. “This is what the holidays are all about, not only being thankful for what you have but giving back to others who don’t.” said Ekejiuba.

While the Thanksgiving Day loss to the Chicago Bears was very disappointing, the pre-Thanksgiving dinner with a few Lions in the Cov are memories our kids will cherish forever.
