Always Coca-Cola!

June 18, 2009 - 11:05am

Most people prefer the taste of either Coke or Pepsi, and claim that they can taste the difference. The students and the staff at the Southwest Community Service Center (SWCSC) decided to put themselves to the test with the infamous Pepsi-Coke Challenge! Students and staff declared their brand loyalty, and arrived decorated in red or blue outfits, complete with face paint and cut-outs of their can-of-choice taped on their uniforms. Everyone participated in a blind taste test to see if they could correctly determine which cup contained Pepsi and which contained Coke.

The room was decorated with Coke and Pepsi paraphernalia and literature about the history of each product was provided. Each participant was blind-folded as they stepped to the table to prove their taste bud prowess. After their initial sip, each participant nibbled on a saltine cracker to cleanse their palette, after which they stated which soda they were drinking. Cheers and jeers erupted as each participant’s choice was confirmed or rejected. One point was awarded for each correct guess.

Congratulations to Team Coke who were declared to be champions. Each student received a medallion and a king sized candy bar. Ms. Rodriguez, caseworker at the SWCSC is planning a rematch on a grander scale, hoping Pepsi and Coke will become sponsors and donate their products to the cause.
